DISSCO 540 MASTIC
WATERPROOFING COMPOUND
DESCRIPTION
DISSCO 540 Mastic is a heavy bodied, pliable waterproofing compound of
trowel consistency engineered for underground service under extreme conditions.
Special additives allow its application in moderately damp conditions
and in dusty areas with no decline in waterproofing ability. DISSCO 540
Mastic may be easily applied by either spray or trowel.
DISSCO 540 Mastic is used in residential, commercial and industrial applications
where a long lasting, easily applied waterproofing compound is desired.
DISSCO 540 Mastic is designed to be spray applied in coats ranging from
50 to 150 mils per coat. It also can be applied in temperatures down to
0°F with the proper heated spray equipment. DISSCO 540 Mastic may
also be applied by hand application with a trowel in coats ranging from
1/8 to 1/4 inch thick.
ADVANTAGES
Needs no primer
Readily adheres to damp surfaces
Eliminates voids
This quick curing mastic can be completely applied in one day. When properly
applied, DISSCO 540 Mastic produces a tough, monolithic waterproofing,
even on damp or dusty surfaces thanks to special additives.
These properties and ease of application have made DISSCO 540 Mastic
a popular choice in mountainous areas where afternoon rains and rough
footings make proper caulking and application of sheet materials difficult
or impossible. Since DISSCO 540 Mastic is applied directly to footings
and walls, there is no opportunity for air to be trapped between the surface
and waterproofing materials as can happen with sheet materials.
A PERFECT TRACK RECORD SINCE 1964.
Originally developed as a tunnel waterproofing, DISSCO 540 Mastic has
been in use for over a quarter of a century. This compound has been steadily
improved and refined into the PREMIERE WATERPROOFING SYSTEM it is today.
With more than 7 million square feet of DISSCO 540 Mastic applied in the
Rocky Mountain Region alone, it has established a perfect leak-free record
to date.

COMPOSITION
DISSCO 540 Mastic is an engineered bituminous product using the finest
materials available. DISSCO formulates a specified blend of bituminous
materials to produce a product not commonly available in the industry
that provides the qualities necessary to produce a waterproofing compound
that is superior to all other bituminous products on the market today.
This specified blend is then compounded with fast drying carriers, select
mineral fillers and special additives that provide the 540 Mastic the
strength, body and adhesion qualities required of a premier waterproofing
compound.
IDEAL FOR MASONRY BLOCK WALLS
DISSCO 540 MASTIC is ideal for masonry block projects. The first coat
fills all the imperfections, the second coat seals and protects. For these
jobs, we recommend masons strike the joints smooth to further seal horizontal
and vertical cracks in joints.
PROTECTION BOARD USE
To prevent inadvertent damage of the DISSCO 540 Mastic. It is recommended
that a protection board (1/4" fan-fold insulation or equivalent)
be installed over the finished product. DO NOT use the DISSCO 540 Mastic
as an adhesive to install the protection board. Allow the DISSCO 540 Mastic
to fully cure (24 hours) prior to installation of the protection course.
To prevent puncture of the waterproofed surface when installing the protection
course DO NOT DRIVE NAILS THROUGH THE DISSCO 540 MASTIC to adhere the
protection board to the coated surface.
APPLICATION SPECIFICATIONS
For below-grade waterproofing applications the DISSCO 540 Mastic shall
be applied in a two coats application. Each coat shall consist of 5 to
6 gallons of material per 100 square feet of surface area to be coated.
With a finished two coat dry film thickness of not less than 100 mils.
Drying time between coats is 30 minutes minimum. However, the second coat
may be applied after the first coat has fully cured.

ROUGH SURFACE MASONRY BLOCK SPECIFICATIONS
When the DISSCO 540 Mastic is to be spray applied to a rough surface
masonry block, it is recommended that the block surface be parged (cement
grouted) prior to application to fill possible voids so as to achieve
a better seal.
If the rough masonry block IS NOT parged prior to application it is recommended
that after the first coat is spray applied as specified above and working
in short intervals to prevent premature drying of the first coat it is
recommended that first coat be hand brushed into the block surface to
ensure that all voids are thoroughly filled in. Then spray apply the second
coat as specified above or as necessary to effectively fill the surface.
